Friendly and charming
This is the second time I have stayed at Villa Irini. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get a balcony room on either occasion, but the terrace was perfectly adequate and felt perfectly private as it was early in the season (12th-26th June). It also had a really good view of both the pool and the sea beyond, both beautifully framed by flowers, trees and greenery. Everyone who works here is very friendly and helpful; nothing is too much trouble and they really make the whole experience thoroughly enjoyable. The breakfast was plentiful with a good selection, and the rooms very clean and pleasant. The showers are a little small as mentioned by some of the other reviewers, but it really isn't a problem. The pool area is lovely, and in addition to the usual sunbeds has a squashy sofa piled high with cushions to relax on. It's only a couple of minutes walk to the beach, which is where most of the other hotels and restaurants/tavernas are situated, but has an advantage over most of the other hotels by being in a quiet and peaceful area. There are two small mini-marts on the main strip, plus a shop that sells mostly shoes, swimming gear and hats, but for anything else (including banks and pharmacies) you need to take a bus trip up to Appollonia. There are some really good places to eat, my two favourites being "Maiolica" and "Water and Salt". Both serve imaginative, well-presented food, with excellent options for vegetarians and vegans.
Villa Irini exudes charm and if I am fortunate enough to return to Sifnos for a third time it is the only place I will consider staying in. Thanks to everyone there for making my holiday extra special!
